SAPS Spokesperson, Brigadier Vish Naidoo, says people caught buying, selling or transporting alcohol after 5pm on Thursdays and before 9am on Mondays will be fined.
Naidoo says that they hope this will prevent people from having parties where intoxication would make them more susceptible to contracting Covid-19. Furthermore, it is to prevent people from engaging in the illicit trade of alcohol.
Licensed traders are the only people who would be exempt from the regulation against the transporting of alcohol, as they would restock over the weekends.
Naidoo says that there will be roadblocks on major national roads, at provincial borders, between districts, towns, and hotspots to ensure that people comply with the regulation.
