On Wednesday members from the South African Police Service (SAPS) discovered the body of a woman in a sugar cane field located in Mtwalume, KwaZulu-Natal.
This discovery comes a day after reports that the body of Zama Chiliza aged 38 was found by community members. The bodies of Akhona Gumede, Nosipho Gumede and Nelisiwe Dube were also found in the region earlier this year.
The fifth body was reportedly discovered approximately 300m away from where the body of Chiliza was found. According to reports, the woman’s body was heavily decomposed she was naked and covered slightly with a scarf.
Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele told reporters, “The provincial office decided to come here today to check if there were any other bodies. We cannot rule out the possibility of a serial killer, however, the evidence that we have now does not indicate it’s a serial killer but we are investigating all possible angles.”
No arrests have been made and the SAPS will reportedly continue searching the area for other bodies.
