SAPS Provincial Commissioner in the Northern Cape, Lt-Gen Risimati Peter Shivuri, has strongly condemned the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old woman allegedly by her boyfriend, a police Sergeant aged 37, in Colesberg.
The man allegedly shot her after they had an argument at around 1 am on Sunday in Colesberg. According to reports, he then turned the gun on himself, however, he survived and has been admitted into a hospital under police guard. Emergency Medical Service personnel declared the woman dead on the scene.
The motive for the shooting has not been established yet and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has been notified in order to conduct their investigation.
Lt-Gen Shivuri says police officers who might be having relationship challenges should seek assistance from the SAPS Employee, Health and Wellness offices.
