The Witzenberg municipality in the Western Cape was declared a coronavirus hotspot after 100 new cases were detected on Tuesday.
The municipality includes Ceres, Tulbagh, Wolseley, Op-die-Berg and Prince Alfred’s Hamlet.
Western Cape Premier, Alan Winde, said that this municipality is the workplace of many seasonal farmworkers who left their homes located in other provinces. Winde further said that although the farmworkers may want to return to their homes, he suggests that they remain in the area to prevent further spread of the virus.
Provincial Health MEC, Dr. Nomafrench Mbombo, visited Du Toit’s Farm in Ceres on Tuesday to share how they can contribute to flattening the curve.
