Financial board member of the Western Cape Athletics Association, Allen Barnes, has been missing for two days.
Barnes was reportedly, last seen in the early hours of Saturday 4 January. He left his home in Edgemead at around 3:30 in the morning.
Barnes was the Director for the Stragglers Beachcomber running event and was allegedly on his way to the event, which took place at Strandfontein Pavilion that day. He was meant to deliver water for the runners to drink along the race but did not arrive at the location to deliver the water or attend the event.
According to a post on Facebook, made by the Chairperson of the Cape Town Sports Council, Elton Davids, there is “no morgue report, no accident report, no hospital admission, no activity in his bank account and no activity on his phone”. In his post, Davids describes Allen’s disappearance as “very strange” as there have been no leads or any information regarding Allen’s whereabouts.
Barnes had allegedly left home in his silver-grey Toyota Corolla sedan with the registration number CA 453326 and it is unclear which route he took to get to the event. His car has reportedly not been seen either. According to Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, a missing person’s case has been opened at the Bothasig police station.
