On Wednesday, the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) released a list of employers who received the special grant allocated to their staff on the UIF-Covid19 website.

According to Business Insider, many large companies already received funds. These include Sasol, the Mr Price Group, Damelin, Bidvest businesses, Protea hotel, Engen service stations and some fast food franchises. Liquor stores, churches, gyms, golf clubs and funeral palours also appeared frequently.

On Monday, Employment and Labour Minister, Thulas Nxesi, asked that employers pay their employees after many complaints were received that funding was not received. As of Monday, approximately R7 billion had been paid out to nearly 1.2 million workers.

The UIF said that there are still claims that need to be processed and 87% of them have already been validated by SARS and will be paid out next week.
