In the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Monday, the three police officers accused in the murder case of 16-year-old Nathaniel Julies, who was shot near his home in Eldorado Park last month, was denied bail.

Magistrate David Mhango said that the release of Simon “Scorpion” Ndyalvane, Constable Caylene Whiteboy and Sergeant Foster Netshiongolo would cause further unrest in the area of Eldorado Park. There is also concern that their release will cause interferences in investigations and that State witnesses might be intimidated.

According to reports, Ndyalvane and Whiteboy are facing charges of murder, discharging of a firearm in a public place, being in possession of prohibited ammunition and defeating the ends of justice. While Netshiongolo has been charged with defeating the ends of justice and being in possession of prohibited ammunition.

The three accused will be kept in police custody for further investigations until 6 November, when the trial will continue.
