In the Northern Cape, detectives made a breakthrough in a rape case of a 17-year-old girl early this morning. The three men had been hiding from authorities following the rape of the victim.

The incident took place in Hopetown earlier this month. Initial reports state that the three men abducted the victim and forced her into a shack. The three suspects reportedly took turns to rape the teenage girl.

The detectives arrested the suspects on 31 March 2021 during suspect tracing operations.

The suspects aged 22, 28 and 33 are expected to appear before the Hopetown Magistrate’s Court soon on counts of rape and abduction,” stated Captain Olebogeng Tawana.

Tawana reiterated that acts of violence against women and children are condemned. “The South African Police Service is committed to uproot perpetrators of Gender Based Violence.”
