Suspects Involved in R47 Million 2010 FIFA Tender Fraud Granted Bail


On Monday former KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Mmamonnye Ngobeni and former captain Ashwin Narainpershad appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court following charges of fraud and corruption in a R47 million Police accommodation tender during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The pair’s co-accused reported to be businessman Thoshan Panday and Police Colonel Navin Madhoe, appeared in court on Friday, 2 October following their arrests by the Investigating Directorate.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) the accused are facing multiple counts of corruption. They face five counts of fraud, two of forgery and one for manipulating the tender system.

Ngobeni and Narainpershad were granted R20 000 and R10 000 bail, respectively.
