According to the SAPS, a detective in the Milnerton area launched an investigation into an attempted murder that happened in Joe Slovo Park on Wednesday, 4 March. The investigation eventually led to the arrest of three men for bribing an officer.
The SAPS report read, “The detective in the case followed up on leads and identified the man who allegedly shot and wounded the victim. Three men of Somali origin arranged to meet with the officer and offered him a bribe of R20 000 for him to make the matter go away.”
The officer agreed to the arrangement and then reported the matter to his commanders. They planned and scheduled a meeting with the suspects on 12 March. The officer was handed R5000 in cash at the meeting which led to the arrest of the suspects.
The suspects are expected to appear in court on a charge of bribery. One of the three men will appear on an attempted murder charge.
