Suspect Arrested for Fraud in Ilitha Park

According to a SAPS media statement, a man was arrested in Ilitha Park on Monday, 23 March, on a charge of fraud and alleged stolen or forged bank cards.

On Monday, the Amanzimtoti Crime Investigation Division asked the Lingelethu-West SAPS Detective Branch to assist them in tracing the 35-year-old suspect on a charge of fraud.

When they arrived at the suspect’s premises they noticed numerous Capitec Bank cards lying on the table and asked him about it. He could not explain why he has it and was arrested.

The statement read, “While en route to the police station, the suspect offered to give the police officials of Lingelethu-West SAPS R500 cash he had on him and also offered to make contact with a friend to bring an extra R1 500. The suspect ended up paying R2000 to the police officials who added a charge of bribery.”

After closer investigation, the detectives found that the suspect has various fraud cases open against him.

On Wednesday he appeared in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court.
