During a briefing of the Community Watch Brief (CWB) report the Minister of Community Safety, Albert Fritz, highlighted 92 cases that had been struck off the court roll due to inefficiencies by the police.

Fritz said, “Of the 92 cases monitored by the CWB Unit which were struck off the court roll, 66 were Gender-Based Violence and Femicide and Domestic Violence related; and included sexual offences, domestic violence, assault and assault with intent to cause Gross Bodily Harm, contravention of a protection order, murder and attempted murder,”.

A total of 52 cases were struck off the roll due to dockets not being present at court and 40 were struck off due to incomplete investigations.

Fritz said the Department has written to the Provincial Commissioner to request comment on the removed cases and will be submitting the report to the provincial standing committee on community safety by the end of December this year.

The report monitored cases between 1 July and 30 September 2020.
