According to reports, a bus carrying 46 farmworkers overturned on the R532 between Graslop and Ohrigstad en route to Mpumalanga on Sunday evening, seven people died on the scene.
A spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Mmusi Moeti, said that the reasons why the bus overturned are still unclear.
“The bus was carrying farm workers who had been working on a farm in Hazyview and taking them to another farm in Limpopo to work there today (Monday). Seven of them died at the scene and 39 of them were injured and are receiving treatment at Matibidi and Kiaat hospitals. All those who died are men. The driver of the bus was slightly injured,” he said.
The SAPS are currently investigating the incident.
