The operational times for the sale of liquor under lockdown level 3 have been outlined by the government.
While on-site alcohol consumption and the issuing of special or events liquor licences will be prohibited, the sale of alcohol will be permitted by those who have liquor licenses between Mondays and Thursdays from 09h00 to 17h00 only.
Under level 3 of the lockdown regulations, the sale of alcohol is prohibited Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The same rules apply for e-commerce sales.
Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, made the announcement during a National Command Council (NCC) media briefing on Thursday.
The transportation and distribution of liquor to licensed premises will be permitted from Friday, 29 May, subject to directions given by the relevant ministers.
Minister Dlamini-Zuma reiterated that the sale of tobacco, tobacco products, e-cigarettes, and related products remains prohibited, except when they are destined for the export market.
