On Tuesday the CEO of South African Rugby, Jurie Roux announced that youth competitions will no longer take place as expenditure needs to be reduced.
Through its Industry Financial Impact Plan (IFIP), SA Rugby aims to decrease spending by between R700 million and R1 billion over the next few months.
Roux says that they are receiving little income due to the restriction on matches. Thus, the IFIP was structured as if there would be no matches for the rest of the year.
SA Rugby is still deciding on how salary reductions will be structured.
The following youth tournaments have all been cancelled:
- All Youth Weeks
- Provincial U13 and U17 Sevens
- SA Schools U18
- Provincial U19 Week
- Provincial U20 Competition
- Provincial Sevens Competition
