On Friday Eskom spokesperson, Sikonathi Mantshantsha confirmed that a group of 60 retired engineers offered to help out the power utility at no cost.

A meeting was held by the engineers, most of who previously worked at Eskom, and a register of the attendees was sent to Eskom to offer their skills and expertise in case it was needed.

According to Mantshantsha, the group is made up of people with a diverse set of expertise. Eskom says it is currently working through each CV individually and has so far approved 14 engineers.

Eskom says it will not present a contract nor payment to any of the engineers who are welcomed back.
