According to a SAPS media statement, five police officials and two administrative personnel have been arrested on Tuesday morning by the Bellville Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit for fraudulent vehicle registration in Langa and Paarl.
The suspects are between the ages of 30 and 40.
“The arrested police officials are alleged to have issued, over time, fraudulent vehicle clearance documentation for illegally imported, stolen and hijacked vehicles.”
Lt General Yolisa Matakata, Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, said there is no space for corrupt members within the SAPS. “I trust the arrests will send a stern warning to members that unbecoming conduct will be rooted out of the service. Those responsible will face the full might of the law,” she added.
The suspects appeared in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Friday on charges of fraud, forgery, and corruption.
