Toddlers suffocate inside a locked car

Two boys, both aged three, have been found dead in an abandoned vehicle in Limpopo.

The circumstances around the traumatic event, as reported by News24, state that the boys went missing on Sunday morning after attending a local church service in Maupa Village.

It is reported that Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, the Limpopo Police Spokesperson, said that it was only realised later during the day that the boys were missing.

The boys were reported missing at Bellview satellite police station. The SAPS K9 unit, local police, and concerned village members conducted a joint search to locate the boys. Colonel Ngoepe told the publication, that the boys were found at 20h30 the same evening.

Preliminary investigations show that the boys were playing inside the vehicle and accidentally got locked in. They were unable to escape and eventually suffocated to death due to the heatwave.

A postmortem report will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
