Two suspects killed during shoot-out with police

At about 22:00 on Tuesday, police officers from the Durban Central K9 Unit were alerted to a car that was stolen at the airport which left two suspects fatally wounded after a high speed chase on the N2.

Police officers from the Durban Central K9 Unit were alerted to a car that was stolen at the airport, The Witness reports.

It is alleged that the two suspects stole the vehicle which led the Durban Central K9 Unit on a high end chase with the suspects.

According to IOL, spokesperson colonel Thembeka Mbele said the vehicle was seen travelling on the N2 near the Bellair policing precinct. Police officers chased after the suspects and was met with gunfire.

“The vehicle was seen travelling on the N2 south bound in the Bellair policing precinct. Police officers intercepted the vehicle but they were met by a hail of bullets,” Mbele told the publication.

During the exchange of gunfire, the two suspects, allegedly in their thirties, were shot and fatally wounded.

According to Mbele the stolen vehicle was recovered, however, a third suspect escaped and is being pursued by the police, IOL reports.
