Two police officers have been killed following an accident between a truck and a light motor vehicle in Durban early Tuesday morning.

According to the ALS Paramedic Services, the accident happened on the M7 Edwin Swales Drive at the on-ramp to the N2 freeway.

The paramedics described ‘total carnage’ being found after arriving on the scene. It is alleged that the light motor vehicle was struck after the truck did not stop at the intersection. Control over the truck was lost and it landed on the opposite side of the freeway.

“Two police officers from the light motor vehicle, a male and a female believed to be in their late thirties and early forties, were found with fatal injuries and there was nothing more paramedics could do for them and they were both declared deceased on the scene,” ALS Paramedics says.

The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and was given medical attention on the scene.

The two officers were stationed at Cato Manor Detective Services. Colonel Thembeka Mbele says that a case of culpable homicide is being investigated by Bellair SAPS.
