Three suspects, aged 32-40, appeared in court today in Durban after swindling money intended for NSFAS-funded students.
The suspects were arrested and charged with fraud after an investigation by the Provincial Commercial Crime Unit.
The three suspects allegedly siphoned funds to three different bank accounts between October 2015 and August 2016.
The R 1,4 million was allocated to NSFAS students at a college in Durban. In-depth investigations revealed that the funds were transferred into bank accounts unfamiliar to the institution.
The suspects have been charged and appeared in court today, 16 March 2021, before the Durban Magistrates Court. The case is under investigation at KwaMakhutha SAPS.
The arrests of the suspects were welcomed by the Acting Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Thulani.
