Two suspects were arrested by the East London-based Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) for selling dagga to students.
The suspects were arrested on Monday and appeared in the East London Magistrate’s Court today. It was reported that the suspects were selling dagga to students between 03 to 08 March 2021.
Under the guise of running a spaza shop parked in front of the East London College in Southernwood, the suspects pretended to sell food and drinks to the students.
However, the main income generator was the sale of dagga.
“The team swooped in on the unsuspecting dealers and the resultant search of the trailer revealed 82 packets of dagga being seized for further analysis,” said Captain Yolisa Mgolodela.
Major General Obed Ngwenya, The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, commended that team for the joint efforts in bringing the suspects to book.
