The presidency has announced that President Ramaphosa will be speaking to the nation tonight at 19:30 – and not 19:00 – about the developments surrounding the country’s response to the pandemic.

This address comes after the country celebrated its one year anniversary of lockdown just three days ago.

Speculation has been rife about adjustments regarding the alert level and restrictions as the Easter long weekend looms. It has also only been just over a month since President Ramaphosa announced the lowering to level 1.

Citizens have been enjoying the less restrictive regulations with the new curfew times, alcohol sales returning to normal and the increase in people allowed to gather.

Many South Africans will be on tenterhooks tonight as we all await the feedback from the recent National Coronavirus Council meeting and the impending, if any, revised restrictions.

The address was set for 19:00, however, the time has moved to allow citizens and SABC viewers to watch Noxolo Grootboom’s final bulletin. The veteran newsreader retires after 37 years.

You can watch the president’s address in just a few hours on a range of platforms.
