A member of the public alerted police officers from Amanzimtoti, Umkomaas crime prevention as well as the security guards in the area after he noticed a suspicious cloud of dark, heavy smoke coming out of one of the houses, said KZN SAPS spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala.

Upon arrival, the team noticed a group of people burning brand new copper cables. One of the suspects spotted the police and alerted his partners in crime to flee the scene.
