The presidency released a statement this afternoon announcing that President Cyril Ramaphosa will be addressing the nation tonight, Sunday 28 February.

This address follows recent meetings held by the National Coronavirus Council, the President’s Coordinating Council and Cabinet.

The president is said to discuss the latest developments in the country’s response to the pandemic.

South Africa received the second delivery of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine yesterday, 27 February 2021. This consignment consists of 80 000 doses to be distributed across all provinces.

Many healthcare workers, along with President Ramaphosa, have already received the vaccine. Earlier this month, Nurse Zoliswa Gidi-Dyosi became the first healthcare worker in South Africa to receive the Coronavirus vaccine at Khayelitsha District Hospital.

South Africans are now speculating whether we will be moving down to Alert Level 1, however we’ll have to wait another few hours to find out.

The president’s address will be broadcast and streamed on a range of platforms.
