Government has released a statement to announce that President Ramaphosa will address the nation tonight at 20:00.
The address will cover the nation’s response to the second wave of Covid-19 infections currently placing immense pressure on hospitals and health care staff.
According to a TimeLive report, the address comes after the Sunday 27 December meeting of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC). In addition to the NCCC meeting, a cabinet meeting was held earlier today.
According to the Presidency statement, the President will speak “on developments in relation to the country’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.”
The address will be broadcast and streamed on a range of platforms that are accessible to South Africans and international audiences.
Reports state that Ramaphosa is expected to announce strict new lockdown restrictions in South Africa as a way of curbing rising infection rates.
