In the Eastern Cape this week, a 33-year-old father was handed a life sentence for the rape of his 13-year-old biological daughter.
SAPS reported that the man raped his daughter while they were walking to the bus stop at Zingonyameni location on 28 July 2020.
The father and daughter proceeded with their journey to town and upon their return, the young girl informed her friends about what happened.
The matter was reported to the police and the accused was arrested the next day. The perpetrator appeared in the Mount Fletcher Magistrate’s Court on the same day.
Bail was successfully opposed by the Investigating Officer and the suspect remained in custody until the finalisation of the case.
The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the young girl. He was found guilty and he was sentenced to life imprisonment on 3 February 2021.
“We cannot allow criminals to continue endangering the lives of innocent citisens especially children they are supposed to be protecting. We need to remove them from society,” Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga said.
