The dismembered remains of a three-year-old boy have been found with a nail in his head after allegedly being taken and mutilated by his father in Durban.
Police reported the gruesome incident on Sunday after the toddler’s family found his dismembered body in the bushes on Thursday last week.
Spokesperson for Durban police, Captain Nqobile Gwala, said it is alleged that the grandmother was at her Thembelihle home in Estcourt with her grandson on Thursday at 09:00 when a man known to the family entered the premises and took the child.
“On Friday, 27 November 2020, when the grandmother returned from work, she noticed that the child was not at home. The suspect was questioned about the whereabouts of the child, but he became violent. That is when the family members decided to search for the missing child. At 14:00, the child was found in the bushes with a nail inserted into his skull and mutilated,” Gwala said.
The 36-year-old suspect was arrested after police found the three-year-old’s missing body parts in his house.
According to an IOL report, the suspect appeared in Estcourt Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was found to be the toddler’s father. National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Natasha Kara-Ramkisson said the accused, Themba Majozi, has been charged with murder and possession of human tissue.
KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula said: “I am glad that the suspect is behind bars to answer for his evil deeds.”
