Police have reported that a 62-year-old farmer living in Pretoria has shot a person believed to be a burglar during an attempted break-in, on Saturday, at the farmer’s Boschkop home.

News24 reports that given the information that the police have, it is understood that the farmer woke up after his alarm was triggered and saw three people breaking in.

Kay Makhubele, Gauteng police spokesperson, told JacarandaFM: “It is further alleged that he shouted at the suspects, but they continued to break in. He then shot towards the suspects while calling the neighbours.”

Following a search around the house by the neighbours, the body of an unknown man was found.

The police were then contacted and cases of attempted house robbery and murder were opened.

Netwerk24 reported that the couple had also been burgled in July this year.

No arrests have been announced.
