A 34-year-old woman has been axed to death by her boyfriend after visiting friends in Rocklands, Port Elizabeth. The victim’s boyfriend has been arrested for alleged incident that occurred on 14 December 2020.
SAPS released a statement on Wednesday (today) regarding the arrest of the 33-year-old suspect for the alleged murder of his girlfriend.
Detectives from Kabega Park in Port Elizabeth tracked the suspect to the Seaside Town of Port Alfred and arrested him on speculation for killing his girlfriend, Vuyokazi Faba with an axe.
Police Spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg stated that the woman was visiting her friends in Rocklands when her boyfriend arrived at around 19:30.
The SowetanLive reported that witnesses claim the suspect was aggressive and dragged the woman from the house and began assaulting her with an axe. The suspect then fled the scene and the woman was admitted to hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
The detectives followed up on information that the suspect was hiding in Port Alfred. The suspect was caught at a relative’s house and was arrested on Monday, 28 December.
He is expected to appear at the Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Thursday, 31 December 2020 on charges of murder.
Van Rensburg reiterated that crimes against women and children are a national priority and that the police will do everything possible to make sure that the suspect remain in custody.
