News24 reports that a young boy found a baby believed to be only five days old in a rubbish bin on Tuesday night, in the Bloemfontein CBD.
After finding the baby, the boy made his way to Thabure police station.
After ER24 paramedics were called to the police station, they discovered that the baby had escaped injury and appeared to be in a healthy condition, reports the publication. The infant was then taken to a hospital for further assessment.
Newborn baby’s body found under a tree
On Monday 29 November, the lifeless body of a newborn baby was discovered on a field in Delft. The grisly discovery was made by members of the community. According to EWN, the baby’s body was found under a tree, wrapped in a brown jacket.
Police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk told the publication that the mother of the child has not been located.
Both cases are under investigation by local authorities.
