The website of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) is being taken down after it was discovered to be linked to a porn site for over two weeks.

News24 reports that this shocking discovery comes amid a payment dispute between the political party and a developer.

“The website has been hacked and we have taken necessary steps to deal with the situation which include taking it down,” said ANC spokesperson, Pule Mabe, to the publication.

The incident was first reported on Twitter by Nonceba Mhlauli, the spokesperson for Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu, who blamed the members of the National Youth Task Team (NYTT) who was responsible for the youth league’s elective conference.

The NYTT spokesperson Sizophila Mkhize responded to Mhlauli’s accusation, saying that the blame cannot be placed on them. Mkhize further added that NYTT was aware of the hacking two weeks ago, and took action by immediately informing the ANC.

The youth league has not been able to have access or upload content on their website since 2015, as this was when the developer blocked them, Mkhize said.

Mkhize then mentioned that “[T]he developer claims that the ANC owes it outstanding payments so [it] has been a longstanding issue” and that “[the developer is] refusing to hand over the website to the youth league.”

News24 states that it has seen the letter that the ANC’s legal advisor, Krish Naidoo, wrote to the service provider. In the letter, the party demands that their name and reputation be protected.

“The ANC would have delinked the porn site from the youth league website itself had [the service provider] honoured an arbitrator’s award to hand over ownership of the ANC website to the ANC,” said Naidoo. “This has not happened, and we place on record that there is no legal basis for [the service provider] not to return ownership possession and control of the ANC website, including the ANC Youth League.”

Naidoo further mentioned, “Since [the service provider] continues to act in defiance of the award, the ANC calls on it and your good selves to take immediate action to urgently correct this grave attack on the integrity and good name of the ANC and the ANC Youth League.”
