A shootout with police officials led to the death of an alleged car hijacker in Alexandria, Gauteng yesterday.
According to Arrive Alive, police were first informed about a hijacked vehicle – Audi A4 – in Rooihuiskraal, Pretoria and recovered an unlicensed firearm hours before the incident.
Once the information was received, officers from the Rapid Response Unit and Johannesburg Flying Squad intercepted the suspects driving the vehicle.
It is alleged that the two suspects in the stolen vehicle started shooting at the police, which led to the shootout.
It was during that time that one of the suspects was fatally wounded.
A search for the other suspect is underway as they had jumped out of the car and fled on foot, said the non-government organisation.
The NGO also states that a six-year-old girl was reportedly taken to hospital after being knocked over by the speeding vehicle.
