A 43-year-old man sentenced to life in prison for repeatedly raping his 15-year-old niece



A 43-year-old man from KZN has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty for repeatedly raping his 15-year-old niece on 21 December 2019, News24 reports.

The man – whose identity cannot be disclosed to protect the identity of the underaged victim – will spend life in prison after he was found guilty by the Port Shepstone Regional Court for repeatedly raping his 15-year-old niece on 21 December 2019.

Colonel Thembeka Mbele stated that the sentencing occurred on Tuesday, 15 December 2020 at the Port Shepstone Regional Court.

According to police, the man brutally raped the 15-year-old girl who was asleep at the time. He did so by locking all the doors when he woke her up and assaulted and repeatedly raped her until he fell asleep.

Mbele Stated: “The victim managed to escape and seek assistance. A case of rape was opened at Port Shepstone SAPS. The docket was transferred to Port Shepstone Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, and the accused was placed under arrest.”

IOL reported that KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commented that it would send a strong message to other rapists who victimise defenceless women and children and think that they will get away.

The man’s identity will be added to the National Offenders Register and declared unfit to possess a firearm.
