A 91-year-old man is expected to make an appearance in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga on Thursday after being arrested for the alleged rape of an eleven-year-old girl and assault of a five-year-old boy.
“According to the reports, it all started when a concerned citizen went to a certain house in Bushbuckridge and found three children in a terrible state without parental care. The children are said to have informed the woman of their ordeal where they indicated that their parents have been abusing them physically, emotionally and sexually.
“Details given by the children also revealed that the 11-year-old girl had allegedly been raped by the 91-year-old man, at times, in the presence of their mother,” Brigadier Leonard Hlathi says.
The woman then approached the principal at a school nearby, who contacted the police.
The police, along with members from the Department of Social Development, rushed the children to receive medical treatment as well as giving them a place of safety.
Hlathi further reports that police are trying to trace the children’s mother, believed to be the pensioner’s girlfriend, for child neglect as the two children and their two-year-old sibling was abandoned.
