On Monday the MEC of Community Safety, Albert Fritz, released a statement condemning the Hanover Park shooting incident on Saturday, 3 October which claimed the life of a 28-year-old man and led to the injuries of seven other people.
According to the SAPS report, “Phillipi police are investigating the murder and attempted murder cases following a shooting incident at Galilee court in Hanover Park on Saturday afternoon by unknown gunmen. A 28-year-old man was found dead on the scene with a gunshot wound to the head. Seven other people were wounded in the shooting and taken to hospital, including a 5-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy. The motive for the shooting is believed to be gang-related,”.
Minister Fritz says that he has requested an urgent meeting with Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Matakata, to address the spate of violence.
