In an interview with eNCA, transport Minister Fikile Mbalula urged motorists to continue to comply with lockdown regulations during level 4.

Mbalula said there has been a gradual increase of compliance from motorists since the beginning of the lockdown. He said that there are still those who are taking risky chances however and are not adhering to regulations.

The minister cautioned that the easing of regulations does not mean the lockdown is over. He confirmed that operation times of taxis will be extended but they will not be allowed to increase their passenger capacity.

Curfews between 8 pm and 5 am will be enforced while long-distance travel and inter-provincial travel restrictions will remain.

Mbalula said the situation will be closely monitored.

  1. The taxis aren’t complying in any case. The taxis on the Athlone to City via Mowbray are filled to capacity this entire lockdown period.
But once again the traffic officials are targeting the soft target private vehicle owners who they know will pay the fines…
