40-year-old Thabiso Mzoboshe has been sentenced to life in prison for raping a 5-year-old girl. The incident reportedly took place in Chakaville in November 2017.
According to SAPS, the accused was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Koffiefontein Regional Court last week.
The five-year-old victim told her mother that the accused lured her to his house when she was on her way home from a nearby tuckshop. The victim said he raped her at his home.
The mother immediately contacted the police and informed them of the incident. SAPS traced the accused and arrested him on the same day.
After further investigation, DNA confirmed the rape, to which the accused consequently confessed to the crime.
He was denied bail until his sentencing. The Provincial Commissioner of Free State, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, welcomed the sentence.
Earlier today, Brigadier Mohale Ramatseba, the Provincial Head of Corporate Communication in the Northern Cape, made passionate plea to victims of sexual offences to report the perpetrators.
It is reported that victims are afraid of coming forward out of fear. Ramatseba assured victims that that there are measures in place such as opposing bail of perpetrators to mitigate victim’s safety fears.
This plea follows the rape of a 16-year-old girl in Warrenton by a 76-year-old traditional healer. VK News reported on this story earlier this month.
