The Adams family from Bromwell Street, Woodstock have reason to celebrate this Festive Season. The Adams’ are the recipients of the extreme generosity of a local fitness club, The HiiT Squad.
The runners sponsored the entire makeover worth over R100 000. According to a report by The Daily Voice, Mariam Adams lives with her husband and their four daughters aged 20, 15, 13 and 12. A year ago, Adnaan her husband, was diagnosed with severe kidney failure. As a result, Mariam decided to stay home and care for her husband. They have become fully dependant on SASSA grants.
Speaking to the publication, Mariam said, “Dialysis is expensive and it’s an ongoing battle to raise funds for his treatments. I get partial funding from the IMA (Islamic Medical Association) but still have to raise R8000 for his treatments, then there is still his nephrologist fees and his medication, all this before food and house and the kids.”
Neezaam Mohamed, founder of the HiiT Squad told IOL that the club had decided that they wanted to end this year off differently. They decided that they would gift a family in dire straits with a home makeover.
The group provides free coaching to runners from 12 clubs and have approximately 260 active members. The cost of the makeover was sponsored by the club members.
Mohamed told IOL, “This family’s circumstances were explained to me and I felt that this was a great fit for what I had in mind. I asked them to entrust us with their home and vacate for 10 days.”
“We gutted the house and replaced everything. Food, towels, appliances, beds, new roof, floors, all electrical, all new cupboards throughout and a complete new bathroom,” added Mohamed.
The club also managed to fill the cupboards with groceries.
The Adams family’s lives have been changed forever through the philanthropic spirit displayed by the members of the HiiT squad.
Speaking to IOL Adnaan said, “I just want to extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the HiiT Squad for blessing us with their kindness and support. The tears in my daughters’ eyes when they saw their room was priceless. Thank you HiiT Squad for giving my family what I wasn’t able to. I am humbled.”
