A Cape Town metro police officer suffered burn wounds when his vehicle was petrol bombed during a volatile protest in Kraaifontein on Saturday.
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, confirmed the incident. He says the officer sustained injuries to his face and arms, however, he managed to extinguish the flames, avoiding further injuries to his colleagues.
The team of Law Enforcement officers were deployed to a violent protest that had erupted in the Bloekombos area, after a group of approximately 600 people occupying privately owned land, was confronted by the City’s law enforcement officers over the past week.
“The city is offering a reward for any information that can help lead to the arrest and prosecution of the person responsible”, said Smith.
He said, “I renew my call to the public to report any information that could help identify and track down those responsible for the attacks on staff, the land invasions and violence in general,”.
