According to eNCA, a bridal couple and their guests were arrested at their wedding in Nseleni outside Richards Bay in KwaZulu-Natal for not complying with the national lockdown regulations.
IOL reported that Inkosi Bhekizwe Biyela of Mahlaziyeni called the police after finding out that the couple, Jabulani Zulu (48) and Nomthandazo Mkhize (38) was going ahead with their wedding despite two warnings, one from him and the other from his headman, to not proceed.
SAPS spokesperson, Brigadier Vish Naidoo, told News 24, approximately 50 people were arrested in Hlabisa during the ceremony, including the pastor and the bridal couple. “They are likely to be charged with contravention of the regulations of the Disaster Management Act 2002,” Naidoo said.
“The bridal couple and their guests are currently being processed at the police station and negotiations are taking place, with the prosecutor on the way,” Naidoo added.
