A fire at the Kempton Park substation in Gauteng, caused a power failure at OR Tambo International Airport yesterday.
According to Times Live, Airports Company spokesperson, Samukelo Khambule, said that the power outage started around 11 am on Sunday and continued for approximately 2 hours.

Times Live reports that Khambule said, “Certain services were affected, such as people movers, retail outlets and some communication mechanisms. Airport operations continued, assisted by the back-up generator systems which ensured that critical infrastructure continued. Manual operations were also activated in mainstream services such as baggage systems.”
The City of Ekurhuleni said on Twitter that areas such as OR Tambo International Aiport; Isando & Spartan Industrial; Kempton Park CBD; Aston Manor and Bonaero Park were all affected by the fire.
It is unclear why or how the fire started. Eskom tweeted that the cause of the fire will only be established once it is safe to investigate the area. No fatalities or injuries have been reported.
