Various police units have been mobilised to apprehend the suspects responsible for the death of two Kraaifontein police officers this morning.
The two slain officers were on patrol in Phumla Street in Bloekombos when their vehicle came under fire. Both officers were killed on the scene and their official firearms were stolen.
According to a SAPS statement, the incident occurred at 01:25 this morning.
“The identities of the sergeant and the constable will be released at a later stage,” stated Colonel Andre Traut. Their names will be made public once their families have been formally notified.
Major General Patekile has expressed his sincere condolence to the families of the two fallen members and vowed his support to them during these challenging times.
SAPS released a second statement today from the Police National Commissioner, General Khehla Sitole who condemned the killing of the two on duty Western Cape Police Officers.
An immediate 72-hour Activation Plan has been implemented.
