Often times when politics is brought up, many people steer away from such a controversial topic to avoid heated discussions. However, the people of the Cape gave their two cents yesterday when asked about the DA.
About 10 000 people participated in Vannie Kaap’s Instagram polls which saw the questions “Do you believe the DA represents all Capetonians?” and “Do you approve or disapprove of the way John Steenhiusen is handling his job as leader of the opposition party?”
73% of the voters said “nagani” when asked if they believe the DA represents all Capetonians. One voter said, “Firstly, I don’t know how still most of our people vote for DA when the DA are the same people who moved them out of Kanaala Dorp during Apartheid…
“…I feel that’s how we initially lost our heritage [because] District Six was known for its culture, the Khoi… but yahhhh.”
With regards to the other question posed, 75% disapproved of John Steenhuisen’s leadership.
“Hy is soos ‘n cry baby! Elke keer as hy nie [sy] sin kry nie, is dit lang stories,” said another voter.
With the local government elections happening later in the year, we should definitely go out and vote for change to better our city because 73% and 75% are pretty high numbers when it comes to disagreeing on the leadership of the ruling party.
If you can vote on an Instagram poll and voice your opinion, you can do the same for the Cape – regardless of what your vote might be.
