A video which shows what appears to be music legend Taliep Petersen’s killer allegedly being released from prison has been shared on social media.

Murder convict Abdoer Raasiet Emjedi – who seems to have aged in the alleged video – is seen walking down the steps of a South African Police Service building in Krugersdorp after serving 11 years of his 24-year sentence.

The viral video shows a grey-haired man being greeted by three women outside the building in Krugersdorp. Two men are also seen walking along with them.

Petersen, 56, was shot dead in his Athlone home on 16 December 2006. His wife Najwa Dirk, 59, was found guilty for plotting the murder after it was found that she and Emjedi recruited Waheed Hassen to kill Petersen.

Dirk was found guilty of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances and sentenced to 28 years in prison in February 2009.

According to a Daily Voice report, Emjedi may have been released on parole on Monday, but the Department of Correctional Services have not confirmed this. The publication reached out to Petersen’s first wife, Madeegha Anders, who expressed their disappointment in the justice system.

“This justice system really fails us, so this sends out a message that it’s OK to kill another person and serve a shorter time than what was given in the sentencing,” she told the publication.

  1. We lost a great performer when Taliep Petersen was murdered. He loved life, music, his family and always had a smile on his face. I still regret his passing.
