On Thursday morning, Mitchells Plain phone repairman Angelo Skietekat was shot in the head in Blockhouse Street, Tafelsig, allegedly by a schoolboy.
The Daily Voice reports that 33-year-old Skietekat was reportedly on his way to fetch a phone part when he was killed.
“Around 06:00, a woman came here and said she found his ID on the scene and that is how she knew how to find us,” said Sandra Grouwers, the victim’s mother.
She continued to explain, “I went with his dad and when we got there we saw him in a kneeling position. When the paramedics arrived, they put him on his back and declared him dead.”
Grouwers also stated that another person was shot and taken to hospital.
“I believe it is gangsters who were shooting and I don’t understand why they shot at my son who was never a gangster,” said Growers, who also said her son was their ‘Mr Fix-It’.
“They say you live by the bullet and die by a bullet, but that doesn’t apply to him because he kept away from that life,” said a heartbroken Grouwers.
The publication states that Grouwers said a witness saw a boy in school uniform. ” . . . he was with someone who was wearing a feminine morning gown.”
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk says that a if there is a chance that the shooting was related to gang activities, it will be investigated as such.
