On Saturday evening joint action between a security company and the police led to the arrest of suspects and seizure of unlicensed firearms during a business robbery in Goodwood.

“Reports from the scene indicate six armed suspects entered a shop on the corner of Merriman and Nelson Streets in Goodwood after 17:00 and demanded money from the owner, who raised alarm with the local security company. The company, in turn, alerted the police,” Brigadier Novela Potelwa says.

With the help of a police dog, a search of the premises led to the arrest of an armed suspect who was still in the shop.

Another suspect who fled the scene was found a few streets away. Police confiscated two firearms and several rounds of ammunition.

The suspects, aged 36 and 31, will be charged with possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition as well as attempted business robbery.

Police continue to search for the four suspects who managed to flee in a vehicle.
