Cocaine worth R 583 million was seized from a fishing vessel off the Saldanha coast in an extensive operation led by the Western Cape narcotics unit detectives and other tactical operational units.
Police seized a massive cocaine haul from a fishing vessel off the coast of Saldanha coast on Monday evening.
A statement written by the South African Police Service (SAPS) read, “The intelligence-driven evening operation saw various tactical forces descending on the vessel where 973 blocks of compressed cocaine (estimated at R583 million) were found in three compartments of the vessel.”
The statement further explained that more investigations are underway to determine the origins and the “intended destination of the consignment.”
10 suspects were arrested on charges of dealing in drugs.
They are all expected to appear in court in Vredenburg soon.
