A former policeman and a SAPS administrative clerk were among the four suspects that were arrested in Khayelitsha during a stop and search operation this week.
Two suspects were arrested after the SAPS Provincial Integrated Team found an unlicensed firearm in the vehicle that the two suspects were occupying.
The police were then led to a suspect’s house in Kuyasa, where they found five unlicensed firearms, ammunition and police uniforms and arrested two more suspects.
“The total seizure comprised four pistols, a hunting rifle, a shotgun, two imitation firearms and various assorted rounds of ammunition. Police uniform items, projectiles, pistol primers, a firearm reloading machine and cartridges were also confiscated,” Brigadier Novela Potelwa says.
The four suspects, aged between 23 and 26, are expected to appear in court on Today, 29 January facing charges of legal possession of firearms and ammunition.
