Some Hundred residents in Langa are said to have been left homeless after a fire ensued at around 01:07 on Thursday morning.
It was reported that some informal structures caught alight in Langa, leaving about a hundred residents homeless.
According to News24, the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue marshals were alerted about a fire around 01:07 Thursday morning which occurred near Standford Dyosini Street.
According to Fire and Rescue spokesperson Jermaine Carelse, 42 firemen were at the scene and that the fire was only contained at around 04:23. IOL stated that no injuries were reported at the time.
Samkelo John who is the ward councillor in Langa spoke to News24 stating that the fire destroyed the homes of a hundred residents and that they are hoping to use the municipal hall to cater to those who have lost their homes while some residents have also been urged to stay with family members for the time being.
“We are hoping to use the municipal hall for some people and have urged those who have family members to stay with them for the time being,” he said.
John further added that they are awaiting the South African Social Security Agency to provide food and blankets for the homeless residents.
